If you're like most people, you've at some point received an e-mail or encountered a comment or message on blogs, guestbooks, forums or even social sites advertising various sexual stimulants or realted pharmaceutical drugs. Some estimates say that SPAM or unsolicited communication accounts for 95% of all email messages sent on the Internet. That's ninety five percent of all e-mail communication across the Internet, and across the entire world. Of that 95%, a majority of unsolicited messages being sent out each day to millions, if not billions, of users are drug and health related. Most of those messages pertain to the illicit distribution and selling of pharmaceutical drugs, including Rogaine, Viagara, Extenze and HerbaLife. Asides from the fact that many of the pills sold to customers have been found to be counterfeit or in some cases out right dangerous, the Viagara and Pharmaceutical drug industry continues to flourish, and with this comes an influx of spammers out to make a comission from advertising these products.
The following is an on-going project to examine the roots and nature of spam and unsolicitated e-mail messages. The following is a live view of our inbox, which we have left open to spammers in a bid to collect as much spam as possible for analysis and evaluation.
